Flora Certified Organic FloraLax Laxative Powder 7.1 oz
Flora Certified Organic FloraLax Laxative Powder 7.1 oz is a unique laxative formula with three natural sources of high-quality fiber rolled into one: organic flax seeds, organic psyllium husks, and organic oat bran. When ingested with the proper amount of water, psyllium can swell up to 100 times its original volume, providing bulk to fecal mass. In this bulk form, psyllium acts as a sponge that absorbs intestinal toxins. It moves quickly through the colon, because it has a lubricant action equal to that of oil, but is not oily. It contains no nutrients. These husks are almost tasteless and they are a good choice for those with an aversion to oily supplements. Defatted flax seeds are used because they swell up with water and form mucilage, which keeps fecal matter soft. The seeds are defatted because the active ingredient, lignin, is found in high concentration in the fiber of the seed, and not in the oil of the whole flax seeds. Oat bran offers an additional source of fiber and is extremely easy to digest.

About Flora
At Flora, they have been manufacturing and supplying premium herbal products since 1965, but their roots stretch back to Germany in the early 1900s, where Dr. Otto Greither, grandfather of the current owner Thomas Greither, dedicated his life to the discovery, production, and distribution of natural health care products. Flora has preserved his original dedication to perfect and make available herbal remedies that ensure maximum purity, quality, and potency with a holistic approach to health.
Flora Mission
In God We Trust
The mission of Flora is to participate in the continuing evolution of the people on Earth toward universal harmony, peace, and perfection by providing products and services for the purification and upliftment of the body and spirit, and by providing to each person who derives a livelihood with Flora, an opportunity for personal growth and advancement of these goals in life.
History
In 1965, Flora began its North American operations in Burnaby, British Columbia, and is currently owned by natural health visionary Thomas Greither. Originally, Thomas ran a natural foods store in Burlington, Vermont, and it was his dream to produce and provide consumers with the finest health products available.
In its early stages, Flora served primarily as a center for distributing and marketing European herbal remedies. At that time, alternative health products were virtually unknown in Canada. As interest grew, Flora began manufacturing natural bulk laxatives and its own line of herbal therapeutic teas. These teas were the first of their kind to be prepared in Canada and their popularity soon blossomed.
In 1986, Flora resumed its role as a pioneer when it produced the first truly cold-pressed, unrefined oils for medicinal use or food preparation. A unique manufacturing method eliminates any light or oxygen and allows the enzymes in the seed matter to be processed at body temperature and the essential fatty acids to remain active.
In 1988, Flora expanded into the U.S., opening a manufacturing facility in Lynden, Washington. The company also acquired several acres of farmland in order to grow its own organic herbs. All stages of production are done in-house in Burnaby and Lynden, from selecting and lab testing all raw materials to herb extraction, encapsulation, and final packaging.
In June of 1992, in cooperation with Elaine Alexander, the company began preparing and distributing the remarkable herbal formula known as Flor•Essence™. Its popular effect in exerting a positive influence on a host of chronic conditions has rapidly spread throughout the health community and is revered by people everywhere for its life-rejuvenating benefits. Flora also launched a foundational line of health products under the Udo's Choice™ label including the first age-specific probiotics and vegetarian DHA.
Today, Flora continues its innovation in product development and environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.
Premium Quality
Flora has evolved into one of North America's premier natural health products companies. The U.S. and Canadian production plants include sophisticated semi-automatic and fully automatic equipment for processing quality herbal teas and liquid tonics, encapsulating herbal extracts and cold-pressing certified organic seeds into health-benefitting oils. Flora's ongoing research and development has resulted in a number of production methods which are the finest in the world.
All of Flora's products are manufactured in accordance with GMP standards and the facilities and manufacturing procedures are in compliance with all regulatory agencies in Canada and the United States, including Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition, Flora is a certified organic producer and processor overseen by the third-party certifying agency, Quality Assurance International, (QAI). This means that the organic herbal remedies prepared and distributed by Flora are guaranteed top quality and chemical free, right from the seed that is planted to the harvest and from the post-harvest facilities to the final production and packing.
Thomas Greither is dedicated to preserving the environment and in utilizing production and packaging practices that are ecologically sound, including vegetarian capsules for all the dry herbal extracts and environmentally friendly amber glass bottles for the herbal tonics and organic oils.
Flora has been honored with numerous awards and continually strives to remain a leader in the field of natural health by remaining committed to its mandate of offering only supreme quality formulas.
Flora Farms
Flora grows most of its own herbs on farms in Washington and Chile and purchases the rest through fair trade practices from organic farmers. "We are one of the very few companies who actually grow our own herbs," says Thomas Greither. "If we buy from another farm, we know what seed they used, and we always receive the herbs in the whole form. You can tell if it was dried properly and handled properly. Most companies buy them powdered. We have a whole grinding department. Each herb needs a different cutting mechanism, and we cut them just before manufacturing. With essential herbs, if I grind them a half a year before manufacturing, that would not be as effective. Sometimes the industry gets a bad name because of the use of these dried herbs. Essential oils oxidize out of the product. For example, in our teas, we have a special vapor moisture barrier so the essential oils from the product can't evaporate; it preserves freshness."
The certified organic farm in Chile lies on 1500 acres of land that has never been intensively farmed and was thoroughly tested before cultivation began to ensure it was free of pollutants such as chemical fertilizers. The farm is set in a pristine paradise cut off by the deserts in the north, the waters of the Antarctic in the south, the Andes (with a height of 5,500 meters) in the east and the Pacific Ocean in the west. This natural enclosing wall protects from plant diseases and insects, and there are no city exhaust fumes or sources of industrial pollution for many kilometers.
Today, approximately 100 different raw materials are supplied here, from more than 80 plant species. Once harvested, the plants are dried using the world's most advanced eco-friendly solar dryers.
